ABC(LOS ANGELES) — On Good Morning America Monday, Lara Spencer reported that newly minted Oscar-winner Frances McDormand nearly had one of her happiest memories stolen from her, when some dude in a tux swiped her brand new Oscar trophy.

Fortunately the drama — which Spencer said had the Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri actress in tears behind the scenes — was brief. Apparently Wolfgang Puck’s photographer stopped the guy at the annual post-Oscars Governors Awards Ball and got the statue back, and the man then disappeared back into the crowd.

The sticky-fingered suspect’s alleged photo was circulated in a tweet by New York Times reporter Cara Buckley.

ABC News has confirmed the suspect, Terry Brant, was reportedly arrested at 11:30 p.m. West Coast time and charged with felony grand theft. He remains behind bars with a bail of $20,000.

Police are investigating why Bryant was at the event in the first place.
