Jason Mraz has gotten the chance to sing for some prominent people over the years, but next month, he’ll be serenading an icon from all our childhoods: Sesame Street’s Big Bird.

Jason will perform at the Center for Puppetry Arts’ Puppets for Puppetry gala May 5 on the Hollywood lot of the Jim Henson Company. The event’s honoree is Emmy and Grammy-winner Caroll Spinney, who portrayed both Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch on Sesame Street for years.

Jason tweeted that it’s “a big deal” for him to be honoring Spinney. Chris Hardwick will host the event, and 30 Rock star Jack McBrayer and former SNL cast member Bobby Moynihan are among the special guests.

The event benefits the Center for Puppetry Arts, a non-profit that works to inspire imagination, education and community through puppetry. The Center houses more than 500 puppets and props donated by the family of Muppets creator Jim Henson and The Jim Henson Company.

Tickets are available at PuppetsforPuppetry.com.
