Neal PrestonIt’s not coming out until October 5, but Lady Gaga‘s movie debut, A Star Is Born, already has some people seeing golden statuettes in its future.

According to Vulture, the first trailer for the movie, directed by and starring Bradley Cooper, was screened this week at CinemaCon, a movie industry conference currently taking place in Las Vegas.

As previously reported, the movie is a remake of the 1937 original, and features Cooper as a veteran musician and Gaga as an singer he takes under his wing.  In the trailer, Gaga says, “I don’t sing my own songs. I just don’t feel comfortable. People say they like the way I sound, but don’t like the way I look.”

The audience reacted with “sustained applause,” according to Vulture, and many took to Twitter to rave.

Los Angeles Times writer Amy Kaufman, tweeted, “I mean, the trailer for A Star is Born just made me cry…”

Another writer, Eric Vespe, wrote, “It’s obviously a passion project for [Cooper] and that earnestness shows in the footage. Lady Gaga was really impressive even in a couple minutes of footage. Very natural, real, vulnerable. This one might be something.”

Erik Davis of Fandango wrote, “Huge applause for first trailer for #AStarIsBorn, which feels like it could definitely be an awards player. Both Cooper and Gaga look great in it. First fall-movie preview I’ve seen where awards will for sure be in the conversation.”

Another writer, Shawn Robbins, concurred, writing, “Watch out for A STAR IS BORN later this year. Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga are moving and utterly electric together in the first trailer.”

Finally, MTV’s Crystal Bell tweeted, “[It]…gave me chills. Lady Gaga’s Hollywood moment is far from over. Music is phenomenal…it felt radically intimate. Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga have crazy chemistry.”
