Peggy SirotaCamila Cabello’s split with Fifth Harmony was messy, to say the least.  In the latest issue of Rolling Stone, the now-solo star talks about how the situation affected her.

According to Camila, she didn’t know that Fifth Harmony was sending that infamous 2016 tweet which read, “We have been informed via her representatives that Camila has decided to leave.”  While Camila admits that she did want to leave, was planning to do so and had made it clear to the group, she still says, “It was as painful as a breakup, a five-year breakup.”

According to Rolling Stone, Camila says she was told — though she won’t say by whom — that she couldn’t have a solo career and remain in the group.  That stress, according to the publication, exacerbated Camila’s OCD, causing “harmful, illogical thoughts” to “play on a loop in her head.”

Looking back on the situation now, Camila, who’s 21, tells Rolling Stone, “I don’t think there was ever a point where I was like, ‘I want to leave because I’m the breakout star.’ We were just really young.”

She adds, “If we were in the same situation now, it would probably be fine for everyone to make their own music while being in the group, because I think everyone understands now that you can’t limit people. That’s why people break free.”

Indeed, Fifth Harmony announced in March that they were taking a hiatus, and other members have since announced solo projects.
