Nothing holdin' him back: Shawn Mendes' new album heading for #1 debut

It looks like Shawn Mendes‘ new self-titled album could be sitting at number one on the next Billboard 200 chart.

According to Billboard, the album, released on Friday, is on a pace to move more than 165,000 equivalent album units — which represents the number of streaming and song downloads combined with traditional album sales — for the week ending this coming Thursday. Of that total, 135,000 units are expected to come from traditional album sales.

If those figures stick, it will mark the “Stitches” singer’s best week in both overall units and album sales, eclipsing his 2016 album, Illumination, which debuted with 145,000 units — 121,000 of that in traditional album sales — according to Nielsen Music.

Mendes is currently climbing the charts with the album’s first single, “In My Blood.”
