From Backstreet to back porch: AJ McLean releases solo country song

Rene ElizondoBackstreet Boys fans have an embarrassment of riches right now.  Two weeks ago, the group released their first new song in five years, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” and now group member AJ McLean has put out a new solo track.

The song, titled “Back Porch Bottle Service,” premiered on Billboard yesterday, and it’s the first we’re hearing from the singer’s upcoming solo project. It’s his first in eight years and it’s also a country album.

Last year, Backstreet Boys topped the country chart when they teamed up with Florida Georgia Line for the song “God, Your Mama and Me,” and then the two groups toured together.  That inspired AJ to get into country music himself — earlier this year, he told Billboard, “I’m coming in to disrupt country…I wanna come in and shake things up.”

AJ tells Billboard that “Back Porch Bottle Service” is “all about making time with the one you love,” saying the gist of it is, “Forget the club, let’s just the make the night about you and me. Let me be your DJ, let me be your bartender, let me be your man.”

Unsurprisingly, the song is reminiscent of Florida Georgia Line, as AJ sings about kicking back with his girl on and drinking beer on the porch.

“Girl you know it’s been a little while/Tonight we gonna do it our style,” he sings. “So keep the Rollin’ Rocks rollin’/Rockin’ chairs rockin’/If the neighbors get to knockin’/We be poppin’ that back porch bottle service/A little VIP for you and me.”

AJ is set to perform “Back Porch Bottle Service” at a fan event Tuesday in Nashville.  The Backstreet Boys will perform on the CMT Music Awards Wednesday night, June 6.
