ABC/Image Group LANiall Horan chose “The Middle” singer, country star Maren Morris, as the opening act for his world tour, while his One Direction pal Harry Styles is currently touring with another female country star, Kacey Musgraves.  Now another British pop star — Sam Smith — has selected yet another female country star as his opening act.

Grammy-nominated country star Cam will join Sam when he kicks off the North American leg of his The Thrill of It All tour later this month.  The tour begins June 18 in Toronto, Canada and wraps up July 27 in Mexico City.

What’s the connection between the two?  Well, they’re friends, and Cam also co-wrote the song “Palace” on Sam’s album, The Thrill of It All.  She also played guitar and sang backup on the track.  Not long ago, Cam joined Sam at all four of his sold-out shows in London to perform “Palace.”

In a statement, Cam says, “I could not be more excited to go on the road with Sam. He is one of the greatest singers of our generation. To be associated with his show — that voice, those songs, that heart — it’s a tremendous compliment, and I can’t wait to share my music with his audience every night.”

Cam can also be heard on “Call Me Sir,” the new single from Train.
