Virginia Sherwood/NBCLast week, Kelly Clarkson made headlines by telling Extra that her very obvious weight loss came about because she’s been treating an “autoimmune disease” and a “thyroid issue” she has with changes to her diet.  Now, a source tells People magazine how much Kelly’s lost.

The source says so far, Kelly’s lost about 37 pounds, but adds, “Weight loss wasn’t the goal. This was an overall health approach. There were reports that she had gone on some extreme diet, and that’s just so the opposite of what she stands for.”

Noting that Kelly’s husband Brandon Blackstock is also following the new regimen, the source says, “She’s very happy and feels great.” However, the source points out, “Kelly’s one to love her body no matter what size she is.”

As Kelly revealed, her new diet is based on a book called The Plant Paradox, which she told Extra was all about, “how we cook our food, non-GMO, no pesticides, eating really organic.”  People explains that the book advocates cutting out certain types of whole grains, dairy products, nuts and some vegetables like tomatoes, claiming that they cause inflammation. This theory is not universally accepted, it should be noted.

However, a nutritionist tells People there’s nothing “magical” about the diet. “It’s that people following this plan aren’t eating pizza [and] baked goods,” she says.
