ABC/Matt BrownNiall Horan has been having a problem focusing on songwriting while on his current world tour with Maren Morris, which is why he’s planning to take a hiatus when it’s finally over.

Speaking to the British tabloid The Sun, Niall said of songwriting, “Nothing has really come yet. When I’m on tour I get into such a routine. And when you’re writing songs, I feel like that needs to be 100 per cent your focus.”

He added, “So I’m going to take a couple of months off after the tour, which finishes in September. Then I’ll just write until I’ve got good tunes. I’m not coming back until I do.”

The “Slow Hands” singer said his goal is to write faster, more rocking songs, explaining, “I find that the slower songs come more naturally for me. I would like to create a bit more of the up-tempo stuff and try to cement my sound. That’s something to work on.”

Maybe he can get some help in that department from Taylor Swift, who he joined onstage over the weekend at one of her Reputation stadium shows in London. You may recall she used to date Niall’s One Direction bandmate, Harry Styles.

Speaking to The Sun, Niall said, “Taylor, she’s a dream. She’s the ultimate superstar, a complete pro, lovely girl and wide open for a collaboration. [But] we’ve never spoken about it — it was the first time I’d seen her in about a year and a half.”

But when asked by The Sun if he’s dating Taylor’s pal Hailee Steinfeld, which has been rumored, Niall dodged the question, saying, “Private life. I’ll keep that one to myself.”
