MAX likes being “airport famous,” but not “Shawn Mendes airport famous”

Jade EhlersSince MAX‘s song “Lights Down Low” became a smash hit, he says he’s been getting recognized a lot more. But he’s quick to admit his fame is not on the level of some of his peers – namely, Shawn Mendes.

It was never more apparent than when the two showed up at the same airport one day.

“It’s beautiful that people like come up in airports and stuff but it’s just enough,” MAX tells ABC Radio. “I was at an airport and Shawn Mendes, I guess, was coming in and these two fans came up to me and they were like, ‘Oh are you MAX?’ and we took a picture and I was like, ‘What are guys doing here?’ And they’re like, ‘Oh, yeah, we’re just waiting for Shawn Mendes. He’s apparently flying in.’”

MAX says he later ran into Shawn at baggage claim and they discussed the airport fan stalking.

“I hadn’t seen him in like two years,” he says. “I was like, ‘Dude, I can’t even imagine. Like, how does everybody know what planes you’re on, when you get off?’”

While MAX is grateful that more people are recognizing his song and his music more, if he never got to the level of Shawn Mendes airport fame, he’d be just fine. But if it does happen, he says that’s OK too.

“If it does, tight. Let’s go, guys. Let’s keep the passion going,” he says.
