Why the rest of Fifth Harmony won't hear Normani's new music in advance

Brendan ForbesFollowing the success of her hit duet “Love Lies” with Khalid, Normani is prepping her first solo single, but she says she hasn’t shared her new music with her Fifth Harmony group mates to see what they think.  That’s because she believes the only opinion that matters when it comes to her solo music is her own.

“I think music, especially with this being my first album, like, it’s an intimate time, y’know?” she told ABC Radio at the American Music Awards nominations ceremony this week. “And I’m really making music for me. So I think that everybody will hear it when it’s done, because sometimes [there are] too many opinions, to be quite honest.”

However, Normani admits that she has let a few very special people hear what she’s working on.

“I sent it to my best friend. I send a lot of music to Khalid,” she reveals, adding as an aside that the “Young, Dumb and Broke” singer’s new album is “gonna be fire.”

She continues, “But, yeah, I think that it’s just about what I think and what I feel. ‘Cause I feel like nobody will know what this project is supposed to sound like or feel like more than myself.”

No word yet on when we can expect Normani’s single, or her debut album. Lauren Jauregui, Ally Brooke and Dinah Jane are all working on their own solo projects as well.
