Stephanie Berger(NEW YORK) — America’s favorite novel has been revealed.

On the season finale of PBS’ The Great American Read Tuesday night, Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird was voted the number one pick.

The eight-part series began in May, spotlighting different novels in each episode. The public was able to vote on a list of 100 books and more than four million votes were cast. According to PBS, To Kill a Mockingbird led the voting throughout all five months.

“What an exhilarating and powerful journey The Great American Read has taken us on over these past few months,” host Meredith Vieira says in a statement. “I am so proud of the way in which readers have embraced this series, and honored to have been a part of it.”

“I’m not surprised at all that Americans chose To Kill a Mockingbird as their best-loved novel. It is a personal favorite of mine — one that truly opened my eyes to a world outside of my own,” she adds. “Harper Lee’s iconic work of literature is cherished for its resonance, its life lessons and its impact on one’s own moral compass.”

Runner-up on the list is Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series, the basis for the Starz hit TV show. Rounding out the top five are the Harry Potter series, Pride and Prejudice and The Lord of the Rings series.

Other novels making the list include Gone with the Wind, Charlotte’s Web, Little Women, The Great Gatsby, The Handmaid’s Tale and Games of Thrones. Check out the full list here.
