Polydor RecordsEllie Goulding is officially back with new music that’s all her own.

The singer has released a new song, “Flux,” and its accompanying music video. The piano-driven ballad strays from Ellie’s typical electronic leanings in favor of a more stripped-down sound.

The black-and-white video is simple and elegant as well. It features images of Ellie wrapped in a silk sheet, and also shows her playing a piano as rain pours down on her.

“’Flux’ is a song that I wrote entirely from the heart that seemed to capture how I felt about not ever being able to let go of a past love, even though it was over for a reason,” Ellie explains in a statement.

She continues, “I feel like I am in a constant state of change and upheaval and it makes me unable to root myself and get over things easily.”

Ellie says that on this track, she took inspiration from different relationships and stages in her life. Now, her love life is a little more stable:  She’s engaged to art dealer Caspar Jopling.

The new single follows “Close to Me,” Ellie’s recent collab with Diplo and Swae Lee. The last single she released solo was 2016’s “Still Falling for You,” from the soundtrack of Bridget Jones’ Baby.
