Jeffrey Neira | Walt Disney DTCIAmerican Idol judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan appeared on Live with Kelly and Ryan Friday to promote the show’s new season, kicking off on Sunday. But the group also took time out to congratulate Katy on her recent engagement to Orlando Bloom.
When Kelly Ripa told Katy that she liked the idea of her and Orlando as a couple, Katy thanked her, and then said, referring to Luke and Lionel, “These guys support it.” “Oh, yeah, absolutely,” added Lionel.
Ryan Seacrest — who’s also the host of American Idol, of course — then asked Richie, “Did Orlando go for Papa Lionel’s blessing, before?”
“No, you know what? No, he didn’t,” Lionel admitted, as the crowd laughed.
To which Katy responded, “That’s O.K….you can repay by singing at our wedding…for free!”
Amid laughter, Lionel said, “By the way, I don’t mind that. That’d be a lot of fun!”
“Aww,” Katy responded, and then turned to Luke and told him, “You’re not invited!”
“I’m just learning that right now,” laughed Luke.
“I’m kidding, I’m kidding,” responded Katy. But Luke wasn’t letting her get away with it.
“Run, Orlando, run!” he yelled, as the audience laughed, and then added, “I’m just playin’.”
It won’t be until later in the season that we’ll get to see Katy judging with her engagement ring, however — the first few weeks will be made up of auditions, which were taped before Orlando popped the question last month on Valentine’s Day.
