Syco/Arista RecordsIt’s finally Louis Tomlinson’s turn to share some solo music. The former One Direction singer has released “Two of Us,” the first single from his upcoming debut album.

The emotional song was written following the passing of his mother in December 2016. In the lyrics, he pours out his grief but vows to live “one life for the two of us.”

“I just feel like musically, I almost needed to get this song off my chest,” Louis explains in statement. “People say writing is a part of therapy and in a way, I feel like I’d been avoiding writing this song because I knew I only had one chance to get it right.”

He adds, “I don’t mean to be too soppy about it, but if ‘Two of Us’ can help just one other person who’s going through the tough time that I went through, then that would make me really happy.”

Louis began teasing the single last week, launching a scavenger hunt where fans were encouraged to find hidden video clips at hotspots all over the world.

So far, Louis and Liam Payne are the two One Direction members — past and present —  who haven’t released solo albums. We’ve already had two albums from ZAYN, one from Niall Horan, and one from Harry Styles.
