Jason Squires/WireImageBack in 2015, Ed Sheeran had the honor of opening for The Rolling Stones in Kansas City, Missouri, and then joining the legendary band onstage to sing their classic “Beast of Burden.” Well, The Stones thought so much of the performance that they’ve it included on their new compilation album, one of only four collaborations featured on the collection.
The compilation, called Honk, is coming out April 19, the day before the U.S. leg of The Rolling Stones’ No Filter Tour kicks off. It’s available in a variety of configurations, including digital, CD and vinyl, but the three-CD set, the deluxe digital version and the four-LP version are the only ones that feature Ed singing “Beast of Burden” with Mick Jagger and company.
The other duets included on the release find The Stones teaming up with Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters, Florence Welch of alt-rockers Florence + the Machine and country star Brad Paisley.
Meanwhile, in other news involving Ed Sheeran and a legendary British band, the new Beatles-themed movie Yesterday, starring Ed as himself, will premiere at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, which starts April 24 in New York City. The film will debut on the closing night of the festival, Saturday, May 4.
As previously reported, Yesterday, directed by Danny Boyle, is about a struggling musician named Jack who gets hit by a bus, and wakes up to discover that The Beatles never existed — and he’s the only one who remembers them.
Of course, Jack decides to pass off their songs as his, and he becomes a huge star — which leads him to turn to Ed for guidance on how to navigate fame.
Yesterday arrives in theaters June 28.
