Book of Days- Black Hills Community Theatre

November 15, 2019 @ 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM

Black Hills Community Theatre presents its second mainstage show of its 52nd season, the drama Book of Days by Lanford Wilson. From one of America’s most celebrated playwrights, comes the story of a small midwestern town dominated by three institutions: a cheese plant, a fundamentalist church and a community theatre. When murder strikes in Dublin, Missouri, Ruth Hoch begins her quest to find truth and honesty among the town’s jealousies, religion, greed and lies.

Dublin, Missouri is a quiet town where a typical week includes listening to Reverend Groves’ sermon, going to work at the cheese plant and maybe going to rehearsal for the community theatre’s production of Saint Joan. All of that changes when a tornado sweeps through the town and the next morning a prolific member of the community is found dead. While most of the citizens mourn the loss and consider it a freak accident, Ruth Hoch gets suspicious that foul play may have been involved.
While most of the town doesn’t believe her at first, she doesn’t give up her battle. Through the interactions between the various characters, many truths are revealed (some that involve the supposed murder and others that affect their lives in different ways). Lanford Wilson’s unique storytelling has moments of humor, poignancy and surprises that prove why he is one of our most
prolific playwrights.

Book of Days is directed by Artistic Director Zach Curtis. Curtis has previously directed Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Gypsy, Fezziwig’s Feast, Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka, and Noises Off for BHCT. The cast features Joanna Lawler as Ruth Hoch, Rodger Hartley as Len Hoch, Kurt Bauer as Boyd Middleton, Merlyn Sell as Ginger Reed, Marcia Kahler as Martha Hoch, Tom Fulbright as Walt Bates, Dennyce Korb as Sharon Bates, Randy Niles as James Bates, Hannah Bowman as Louann Bates, Nicolas Christenson as Earl Hill, Rob Martin as Reverend Bobby Groves, and Jace Brock as Sheriff Conroy Atkins.
