RCA RecordsIt feels like a Millennium since the Backstreet Boys scored a #1 album, but it’s only been 18 years.  Well, 18 years and two months, to be exact.

The band’s new release, DNA, has debuted at #1 on the Billboard album chart, with first week sales of 234,000 units, according to Nielsen Music. The last time the Boys were on top was December of 2000, with their album Black & Blue

DNA is the group’s 10th top-10 album, which means that every album they’ve ever released has reached the top 10.  The last act to hit the top 10 with each of their first 10 charting albums?  Led Zeppelin, who did it between 1969 and 1982.

DNA has also scored the biggest sales week for a pop album since Justin Timberlake’s Man of the Woods, which debuted at #1 in February of 2019.  Overall, DNA has scored the largest sales week of any album since Carrie Underwood‘s Cry Pretty in September of 2018.

As Billboard notes, DNA’s sales were strong because everyone who bought tickets to their upcoming tour also received an album redemption code, and albums that were redeemed count as sales.

Last night, the Backstreet Boys starred with Chance the Rapper in a Super Bowl commercial for Flamin’ Hot Nacho Doritos. Next weekend, they’ll compete for a Grammy in the Best Duo or Group Pop Vocal Performance category, where DNA‘s first single, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” is nominated.
