In 2015, Taylor explained that for Christmas, she asked her mother to get screened for health issues.  That’s when she received the bad news.

“The results came in, and I’m saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer,” she wrote, and went on to say that the reason her mother wanted her to go public is so that Taylor’s fans will think about reminding their own parents to get checked.”

In the essay, titled “30 Things I Learned Before Turning 30,” Taylor writes, “Both of my parents have had cancer, and my mom is now fighting her battle with it again. It’s taught me that there are real problems and then there’s everything else.”

“My mom’s cancer is a real problem,” she adds.”I used to be so anxious about daily ups and downs. I give all of my worry, stress, and prayers to real problems now.”

Among serious topics such as that one, though, Taylor also found room for levity in her essay, such as warning her fans not “use a Sharpie as eyeliner,” as she’s done in the past, and asking them to “pray for the safe return” of her once-curly hair, which is now, through no fault of her own, completely straight.
