Black Hills Community Theatre joins with local nonprofit group Music Adds Up to present a concert full of musical theatre songs as a fundraiser event for two organizations. Black Hills Goes to Broadway has been an annual fundraiser for Music Adds Up for the past three years, but this will be the first time that BHCT will be involved. As usual, the majority of proceeds from this fundraiser will directly impact music education in Rapid City Area Schools.
Black Hills Goes to Broadway is directed by Ryan Puffer with Music Direction by Vonnie Houchin and features performances from local talents including David Andrews, Eli Corbett, Caroline Haugo, Paula Kennison, Jason Knox, Kameron Nelson, Audrey Perli, Holly Perli, Olivia Perli, Taylar Perez, Benae Reuppel, Jessie Sewell, Abby Stevens, Andrea Surovek, Ben Villa, Leslie Villa, Jackie Waldie and others. This musical theatre revue will include songs ranging from Golden Age Classics to numbers from shows currently still running on Broadway.
Music Adds Up is a nonprofit organization supporting elementary music education in recognition of the positive benefits of formal music instruction on intellectual development including math and spatial skills. Every school year, Music Adds Up provides chosen Rapid City music teachers with grant funding to be used in their classroom. In the past, grants have covered ordering catalogues of music, purchasing ADA compliant instruments, sending music educators to training’s, and sponsoring traditional Native American dancers in the schools.
Black Hills Community Theatre BHCT will be presenting its 51st season of 2018-2019! Every year, BHCT produces five Mainstage shows, two youth productions performed by Cherry Street Players, an annual Dinner Theatre Fundraiser, plus workshops, special events and summer theater camps. BHCT’s home is in the Performing Arts Center in Rapid City. The mission of the BHCT is to infuse the Black Hills Region with enthusiasm for all aspects of theatre by providing quality theatrical opportunities and productions for the region.
